Friday ‘Book Shelf’ Café
How do we organize our knowledge? Actually, no, not “how do we organize our knowledge?” That question would get us into matters such as school of medicine vs. school of law vs. school of arts and sciences. And I don’t mean to ask about education. Or, it could get us into how knowledge is organized in the body: brain vs. gut instincts vs. muscle memory. And that is not an arrangement that any of us has chosen (neither, for that matter, is the structure of higher education). Or, it could lead to facts such as that Harvard, to choose an example out of thin air, has organized “knowledge” into 79 libraries—a number that includes the library
of the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, DC, but that excludes the library depository
that houses less-frequently-called-for books. And that doesn’t seem right.
But “libraries” does get me closer. What I really want to find out is, how do you organize your books? (E-books allowed!)
So stop in
, order a drink, maybe sketch a book-map on the back of a napkin . . . the doors of Friday Café are open.
